Hello everybody and Happy New Year! 2017 was a pretty amazing year for us, and we're hoping that 2018 will be an even better one. We recorded some of our best music yet, a lot of which is still unreleased and will be released as 2018 progresses. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for those tracks, we want to know what you think of them as soon as possible! We also started some other really exciting projects, one of which we hope will be coming out coinciding with the release of our new demo, “War For Your Mind”, which is coming out very soon. Check out Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for the live updates on that! I apologize for the vagueness, but how else can I tell you to look out for something without ruining the surprise?
One huge announcement, our bass player Christopher got married in November. Predictably, the wedding was a shit show for all involved, and we wouldn't have had it any other way. So we want to publicly say Congratulations Chris and Katie, and if the authorities ask, we were not even IN the area of Throgs Neck on the morning of the 4th of November and to stop calling.
We're hoping that 2018 will be the year for our live performances as well. I think that as a band we've been focusing on writing and recording over the past two years. The idea has been to really move forward as Take the Black before we start pushing outward into the world for shows.
We've been playing music together since we were seniors in high school and we've had a couple of different band names. We started off as Gentlemen of Fortune, and then after that were called One Car Pile up for about six minutes, then we were South Ferry Station for a few years. Throughout all of those iterations we had lots of different material and songs that we wrote. We've always kind of merged everything underneath whatever banner we were carrying at the time, so we would play Gentlemen of Fortune Songs at South Ferry Station shows and things of that nature. One of our goals with Take the Black is to strip away a lot of the stuff we have been playing for years and really focus on this band as its own entity, and that's what we've been doing for the most part. There are, nevertheless, some old school easter eggs for people who really like the band. Check out our new acoustic demo, Sink or Swim is a classic song that we have been playing for many years and it was rewritten and reimagined to go on our demo of duets. The duet is with pianist Lynn Min, who is truly amazing and helped bring a new kind of character to the track, check it out on Spotify when you get the chance!
Coming back to the point, this year we are going to be making a push for more live performances and we're going to need all of the support we can get. Please keep checking social media for updates and please come out to see us if you can. Who knows, maybe we are working on some kind of special present for our most die hard fans.
Have a Great New Year and Stay Warm,
Take the Black
